@Razgrizone *cough* Next you tell me that religion never sparked wars. That people learnt not to vote idiots with power fantasy to rule them. And that catgirls are never gonna be become real!

Yeah xD.

This is an as skewered view of japans jsdf and military history as any.
But lets be real here. Pressure from people to behave politely is strong nowadays, so the general populance would massacer the miltary and political headsnoobs on needless wars.

It's just weird, that each time japan goes to war in a fantasy world. No dragon, wyvern or water wyrm.... dents their efforts.
And no magic is ever really destroying alot of stuff.

*shrugs*

But i still like this one, atleast plotwise its good.

Shhhh. Don't spoil the moment. But truthfully speaking. Even then, they can make their own. If they really need too. The knowledge is quite easy and they got the ressources (either inland or as trade goods from the fantasy world).

@VladV

I've read the latest one also and the currently 99th chapter's most advanced other nation is only as advanced as 1947 technologies of our time.

potentially not really if it is the general information of basic ammunition then potentially that is actually somewhere in a gun otakus room and given the situation wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese government either opens or commissions someone make more

Now, this is what I've been waiting for!!! Shame on you "Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (GATE)", because of its plot kept on being "Fan service" standards the true plot on how it should've been caused the story to plummet like these Wyverns being shot down by the anti-air missiles. This one, on the other hand, is how Isekai nation expectations would have truly been!

@abuhajaar Well in the novel:

The shells fired by 7 destroyers steadily sunk a ship per shell. The attacks were from outside the range their enemies. It was like a shooting exercise.
The numbers of the roar from main guns of the JMSDF destroyers was the number of how many Lourian Navy warships sunk. However, 4,400 ships were a lot.
Perhaps because of confusion or unrest, the Louria Kingdom Navy was moving chaotically. However, there was no sign of retreat, and eventually, when 1,400 ships found their rest in the watery grave amongst the seaweed, the compact-gun’s shell was nearly exhausted.

「Cease firing.」

Debris of what once was ships floated on the entire sea surface.
『Myoukou』 was closing in on the enemy fleet.
When it reached the 400-meter range, it fired its 12.7 mm machine guns which was once used to counter unidentified ship. An enemy ship’s hull and deck were filled with holes that it slanted, the oil for the fire arrow was ignited by the torch fire and engulfed the ship with fire. Another ship sunk when its inner deck was flooded with water.
The deeds were performed businesslike and one by one, the enemy ships were sent to the bottom.
More and more, the tragedy that struck Louria Kingdom Navy continued. Five JGSDF 『AH-1S Cobra』 attack helicopters on board the Helicopter Destroyer Izumo joined the battle.
The attack helicopters fired their Hydra-70 rockets on the warships underneath. The continuous flying rockets were like a meteor rain that pulverized the wooden warships. After each unit had spent their 152 rockets , they strafed down with the 20 mm cannons to destroy the warships. In any case, they didn’t aim at the people. Their entire attacks were targeting the rudders.
Once they completely out of bullets, they returned to 『Izumo』 to resupply and resortie.

In the manga, Izumo doesn't get her turn... Kinda sad... Izumo carry anti-ship helicopters after all...

I can foresee a problem in the future.... they're going to run out of their missiles and projectiles eventually (especially since they buy a lot of that from the US in reality). and then they'll be pretty powerless and will have made powerful enemies.

Japan has domestic ammunition and ordnance companies (Asahi-Seiki Mfg comes to mind) that make their own ammunition and ordnance for the military, especially since Japan still uses homebrewed missiles a lot and other things which the U.S. has phased out of service. Making 76mm Oto or 127mm Mk 54 shells would be relatively trivial so long as you didn't need tens upon tens of thousands. Plus there's going to a metric sh*tload of them in reserve due to both the JMSDF and United States Navy/U.S. Forces Japan presence there and their military stockpiles. Granted, Japan has no equivalent of Lake City... then again no country on earth has an equivalent of Lake City.

I actually recall seeing some 7.62x51 rounds years ago that had, at that time I didn't know were Japanese, Japanese headstamps (wish I had taken pictures of them so I could've found out what the kanji said, but I doubt it was anything terribly interesting outside of the company name). It was Japanese manufactured 7.62x51 with colder loadings for their Type 64. How the hell they got out of Japan and why that person had them, I dunno. They were live rounds, not demiled or dummy cartridges. Then again this guy also things like gyrojet rounds and Dardick Trounds in his collection and just about anything weird, historical or rare in firearm/ammunition history that he could get his hands on for an example.

@definitionofinsanity Gyrojets aren't weird :3. They're OP! And with 3D Printing, probably going to have a comeback.

@definitionofinsanity alright, let me correct then, they will run out of missiles (like the RIM-66 they used on the wyverns) and various stores and rounds for their jets that they buy from the US. they could still use them for intimidation - I've certainly felt like cowering when strafed by a 4th or 5th gen fighter - but these other militaries would figure that out pretty quick. good thing there's no F35s in this universe apparently, those would just be a pain to deal with considering what (limited) stores have been cleared for use on them.

though now I'm a bit curious if any of their submarines were transported over and what happened to all the US bases

@T-L-G-T-W

It's our orangutan brains that find such pleasure in seeing opposing tribes get f*cking destroyed by Earth's modern forces.

I personally enjoy it for the hubris reasons. Big bad badass little tribe thinks they're the ultimate power in the universe only to realize just how small of a fish in a very big pond that they are.
Of course, the same can happen with us. Although once you get to the other end of the spectrum of technological advancement, the theoretics of what is possible include them killing us so quickly we don't really have time to process or realize what it happening. So while impressive in its own right it's far from satisfying.

There's something I love seeing and that's people seeing something that they didn't think was possible. And for it to be otherwise mundane. I'm not talking about magic sh*t, either. I'm not a big fan of magic. But when you have something that is just impossible to another party and you just tell them "oh yeah, we made that from scratch like you make your swords or chairs and anyone can use it unlike your magic horsesh*t" it's so... so satisfying.

Izetta actually did a good job with this by showing industrial capability finally outmatching magic at its apex while being sympathetic and... I hate using this word... but "realistic" in its approach to magic.

And the ending, at least for the counties involved, was the best because it was industrial output and manpower that won the war - not magic Aces or Trump Cards.

It didn't hurt that Izetta was also really likeable and wasn't arrogant about her powers at all.

@tailor31415

and what happened to all the US bases

My guess, if the novel hasn't addressed it already, is that the author forgot United States Forces Japan was a thing and some 60,000+ U.S. servicemen/women were stationed in Japan (along with their families, so tons more Americans as well) and just didn't include them. It could also be possible that the author is just letting the Americans do their own thing. Or, if they're anti-American, the Americans will definitely be a future antagonist and bad guy that will betray/backstab Japan or go all imperialistic and tyrannical.

...But most likely they legit forgot or didn't realize so many American military forces were in Japan at all times and would've gotten whisked away with Japan.

@Goblinguy

I-se-kai, like that?
How do I pronounce that word?
Not as "Ise-kai"?

(Well the former feels weird rolling off the tongue)
