James Milton Click, III, known affectionately to friends and family as Jim or "Cub", passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on August 29, 1961, in Ashland, Kentucky, Jim was a man whose vibrant spirit and loving nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him.Jim was a proud 1979 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School and furthered his education at the Ashland Vocational School, where he honed his skills in welding. His career was a testament to his work ethic and dedication, retiring as a Maintenance Mechanic Welder A with American Electric Power's Big Sandy Plant. He was also a respected member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local #248 and enjoyed working with many of his Union brothers. Jim's sense of civic duty was evident through his varied involvements, from his time as a Deputy Jailer with former Boyd County Jailer Joe Burchett, to serving on the Board of Directors of the Cannonsburg Fire Department. During Jim's time on earth, he enjoyed being a 32nd Degree Mason with Poage Lodge No. 325 Free & Accepted Masons, a former member of the El Hasa Shriners Oriental Band, and the Fraternal Order of Police, FOP Lodge 3. Some of his fondest memories were being involved with the Boyd County Football Program while his son played. His love of sports was only matched by his passion for the great outdoors. Throughout the week, you could often find him sharing stories with his friends at Borders Sporting Goods. He enjoyed traveling the country hunting different game with valued friends and family. He loved to fish, and he was very proud that he recently helped his oldest grandson catch his first largemouth bass. Jim's faith was a cornerstone of his life. A devout Christian, he was a member of the former Belmont Baptist Church and attended the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was evident in how he treated others.Jim was a skilled Bluegrass tenor singer and enjoyed playing the mandolin. He spent five years singing with Sammy Adkins and the Sandy Hook Mountain Boys, as well as various other musicians throughout the Tri-State during his life. Jim had a passion for Bluegrass music and the Clinch Mountain Style, Dr. Ralph Stanley Sound. Jim was a man of immense love and spirit; his presence could light up a room, and his laughter was contagious. Described as adventurous, loving and spirited, he approached life with an open heart and sense of humor that endeared him to many. Jim truly never met a stranger, and his family was never surprised when he would meet someone new and end up talking to them for hours. Jim was a devoted family man and will be missed by all who knew him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Click Jr., and Betty Adkins Click. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Gail Salyers Click of Ashland; his son, James Click, IV and wife Kristy of Georgetown, KY; brother Mike Mooney and wife Kathi of Ashland; sister Gail Erwin of Ashland; his beloved grandchildren Maxwell Click and Beau Click of Georgetown; and a host of extended family and good friends who will miss him every day. The life of James Milton Click, III was a tapestry woven with the love of his family, the loyalty of his friends, and the service to his community. As we bid farewell to Jim or "Cub" as many referred to him as, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to have known him. <![CDATA[The Independent Obituaries: All Categories]]> (17)

Kevin Marc Bailey 1956-2024. "Time and space may separate us, but not the thoughts and memories that bind us." ~Ed ParkerKevin Marc Bailey, age 67, of Rush, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and fond memories in his mind. Kevin was born in the summer of 1956, a time when the music was good and the cars were cool, on July 7th. He was the blessing of the late Kenneth Bailey and the late Carole Handley Bailey Prietzel. He was a 1974 graduate of Boyd County High School and retired from C&O Railroad where he worked in the paint shop until his retirement. Kevin was a member of the Rush Masonic Lodge, and a black powder gun enthusiast. It was his love for those guns that kept him entertained for hours watching old westerns. Kevin had a very artistic soul and loved to play music. He was very talented guitar and drum player and it is his melodies that will play on in the hearts of those he loved for ages to come. Kevin had a way of hearing things in music that no one else could. The soundtrack of his life was full of rock and roll and he could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about the lyrics, writers, or performers. After retirement, Kevin and his wife would travel to Florida when it got cold in Kentucky. These snowbirds found themselves in love with the pace of beach life. The long walks that would begin at five in the morning along the shore to sharing a meal by the water. As time went on, they found themselves staying longer and longer until the months turned into years. Beach life agreed with Kevin and from his surfboard he enjoyed the big waves. Kevin had a caring soul and a gentle heart, and he had an unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a memory that will be cherished by all left behind. Kevin leaves behind his loving wife, Teresa Friley Bailey, five beloved children, and a host of precious grandchildren, his devoted sisters Michelle Smith and her husband Bryan of St. Clairsville, OH, and Julie Brockman and her husband Tim of Sun Prairie, WI, two special nieces Caitlin Brockman, and Reginna Litteral, one sister-in-law Anita Nolan and her sweetheart "J.D.," Father and Mother-in-law, Harry and Pricilla Friley, and his dear stepfather, Rudi Prietzel. Also surviving is his best companion, his dog, "Tater-Bug," and host of extended family members and friends. A Funeral service to honor the life of Kevin will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, beginning at 12pm, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, located at 2702 Panola Street, Catlettsburg, with Pastor Bob Quillen officiating. Visitation for friends and family will take place between 11am and 12pm prior to the service. Kevin will be laid to rest at Klaiber Cemetery following the service on Friday. Online condolences may be sent to the family from our website at kilgorecollierfuneralhome.com or on Facebook at Neal-Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home. <![CDATA[The Independent Obituaries: All Categories]]> (34)

Susannah Price Pate, 62, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Susannah was born March 9, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio to James Edwin Price and the late, Donna Margaret Lynd Price, where she began her lifelong love of nature which grew during her year at Sterling College in Northern Vermont. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Tobias Price, and husbands Victor Gawayne Hillman and Jacky Burk Pate. Susannah is survived by her father, James Edwin Price, sisters, Betsy Howard and Jamison Price, daughter, LaTricia Zeneta Hillman, son, Jason Edward Price, grand daughter, Scarlett Elizabeth Hillman, grandson, Phoenix Michaell Haven, Grandson, Jackson Edward Price.Susannah earned her Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University, Certified Professional Assistant certificate from International Associate of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) and Associate Arts, Computer Science from Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC), Ashland, KY. Susannah worked for Varian Medical Systems in Palo Alto, CA, Panasonic Venture Group, Doubletree Hilton San Jose, CA; Nokia Sunnyvale, CA; ATA Services, Albuquerque, NM;Virtual Solutions Work, NM; Adecco Services, Columbus, OH; Ni SourceInc., Columbus, OH.Susannah was an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member. While President of IAAP Mission Train Chapter, she grew the chapter membership from 30 to 130 plus, which was one of several examples of her leadership ability. Susannah was a positive person who could take "the bull by the horns" to complete the projects.Susannah felt most alive and herself on the back of a horse, canoeing, hiking, and being outside in the woods. As a child, Susannah found adventure in the Hardy Boys books; as she grew older, she traveled through the pages of Louis L'Amour's novels. Her daughter, LaTricia Hillman, and her son, Jason Price, would inherit her love of nature, reading and her "I am flaming liberal!" life views. She was passionate about women's health care, equal pay for equal work, quilting, her children and her family.Susannah's children were her world. As a single mom, she did her best with what she had. She encouraged LaTricia's love of the theater and Jason's artistic skills. She ensured they understood that a good education was the best foundation for them. She was proud of the adults they became and loved watching them become parents themselves. One of her many favorite memories and moments with her children was watching as every summer they tried to steal Jack's barbecue ribs from the grill before he was done cooking them. Taking her kids to new places and watching them scream excitedly was a joy. When Susannah was seven years old, she received a 3-foot stuffed frog for Christmas, which started her love for frogs. While working at Varian, she, with the approval of her Varian boss, began her own managing company and named it, FrogLeg Productions. Susannah held a special love for Santas, a symbol of joy, generosity, and the magic of the holiday season. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and summer was her favorite season. Her love of nature would also be how she would meet one of her top three favorite humans. In 1990, she went on a blind date, camping with a man who would become the love of her life; six years later, he became her husband, Jack Pate. Jack was Susannah's best friend and biggest fan. Their honeymoon was spent touring Northern California, hiking, and visiting the Redwood Forest. He would also encourage her love for camping. As a family, they would camp in Big Sur, Mount Shasta, and the Santa Cruz Mountains every summer. When asked, "If you could go back and live one year of your life over without changing anything, which one would you pick?" she responded, "The year I met Jack—the first year with him."After Jack passed away in 2020, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she found herself. She became an Energy Warrior/Shaman Healer. When she was doing her Shaman work, she was most at peace. She loved learning the medicine wheel. She started teaching the second grade at the International School of Mesa, and was excited to watch her students grow. She even overcame her fear of heights and rode in a hot air balloon. She also found a new family of incredible women who would love and support her. Her friends will remember her as someone with astonishing leadership skills, a kind heart, and a caring spirit.Susannah's life was celebrated on April 20 in Rio Rancho, NM. In place of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Planned Parenthood, Shaman Jean-Scholarships for classes, or the National Parks Conservation Association.
