Coach of the Year

High school softball 2024: All-Bay Area News Group team (8)

Courtney Hennings, Amador Valley

In her first year as full-time head coach of the storied Pleasanton program, the Amador Valley alum (class of 2015) led her alma mater to a surprising postseason run.

After the Dons won the NCS Division I championship, she then guided her team the Dons on one of the most improbable regional playoff runs in state history as the No. 8 seed in NorCal’s top division.

Amador Valley stunned undefeated St. Francis 4-1 on the road in the first round, and then traveled to the Central Valley and handled Clovis North 7-2 in the second.

The Dons then outlasted El Dorado Hills in a thrilling 13-11 extra-inning victory to capture the regional crown.

“As an Amador alumni, I wish we had this in the past, and it is so exciting to come back and guide these girls to this next level,” Henning said about capturing the NorCal tournament, which was added in 2022. “It’s an amazing experience.”
